4.5/5

City of Fallen Angels is a very exciting and enthralling book that I have had the fortune to read from the series. As the fourth book of the total 6 book series, I think this book was the most intriguing, and also the most tortuous one of the series.

So this time, the book has 3 different perspectives; Jace Herondale, the ‘almighty’ Shadowhunter who gives highly sarcastic remarks about his personal life, and also lately the angsty teenager who keeps having dreams about hurting Clary (his gf), and keeps swords stacked near his bed.

There’s Simon Lewis, the funny vampire who almost always gets himself in near fatal danger, and the guy who always makes bad D&D and Anime jokes, making Clary laugh, but also making everyone else look at each other in confusion and disbelief. He used to be a big fan of Borscht, which is some kind of German soup.

And there’s Clary Fairchild; the main character, the former mundane who didn’t at all know that she was a Shadowhunter, and didn’t even know that magical beings like faeries, warlocks, demons, angels, vampires, and werewolves existed before she saw a murder of a seemingly normal human, and saw 3 people who she never noticed before.

Something that I really didn’t like in this book was the way Jace basically pretended that Clary didn’t exist after seeing all of the horrible visions with him killing her and her dying in his arms. I understand that he really didn’t want that to actually happen with Clary, but at the same time, I felt like he could’ve discussed that problem with her so that they’d both try to handle the situation and try to figure out ways to fix the problem (though I do know what the problem is… >:D).

Anyway, Clary doesn’t know about those issues that Jace actually has, so she tries desperately to talk with him; like for example, calling his phone only to be answered by the machine, or trying to get Simon to ask Jace why he’s avoiding her, which works only to an extent.

Honestly though, I think that Jace could try to talk to SOMEONE about his feelings and dreams, because when you keep them bottled up, they will tend to come out in a rush, and you’ll end up madder at yourself than actually mad and scared to other people.

Something I liked: Alec and Magnus are fully embracing their gay pride because I see a lot of that in the books, and also that Shadowhunters around them are getting slightly braver to discuss their feelings with other people who have the same gender, or any gender at all. Malec is still one of my favorite lovelines, and I would never want to make them break up. In fact, theY SHOULD GET MARRIED AND ADOPT A BLUEBERRY WARLOCK AND AN ANGSTY BUENOS AIRES ORIGINATING 6 YEAR OLD! I’ll plan the wedding, so I think fall colors and orange tuxedos would work fine :D.
