Insurgent – Veronica Roth

So, the Insurgent novel is the successor to Divergent, the book written by Veronica Roth. Honestly I think that it took me a while after Divergent to read Insurgent, possibly because I was still basking in the glory of the first book. And honestly, all I have to say was that the Insurgent novel was a HUGE letdown. Here’s why:

So, the story picks up where Divergent ended, with Tris and Tobias on the train, trying to escape the clutches of the Erudite, and also figuring their next strategy to make sure the Divergent aren’t killed further. Lives were costly (a lot of them, anyway) and factions were splitting up to choose between the ‘good’ side and the ‘bad’ side, which basically ruptured the entire foundation of the factions wildly. 

My review of this book; honestly I didn’t think that it was great, only like 5 stars out of 10 if I had to give it a star rating. Honestly, the book was moving in a much faster way, switching rapidly and sharply from time to time. It made my head hurt from where all the switching occurred and it also confused me a lot from the first few times that I had to read this book. I agree that maybe it would give you a better perspective on a couple of the characters, but I lost interest in it after I read it. It felt like the entire Divergent book was so much better than the successors and honestly, the writing could’ve done a bit more justice to the book. 

I honestly agree with most of the people saying Insurgent didn’t live up to the expectations for Divergent, and frankly, they were right. I didn’t like the plot line a lot, like how Tris literally gave herself away to the Erudite because she was the only PURE Divergent and she just threw her life away like it had no meaning. I CAN SERIOUSLY relate to Tobias, who kept warning her about the consequences of doing so, but she never listened, did she, like an adamant Donkey Kong who ate one too many Bananas and now rolls down barrels on top of people for a living!!

Sorry about that vent. It’s not like I can just scream in my house and disrupt my entire family… or can I? 

No, unfortunately, I can’t. 

I think Tobias was right to give her an ultimatum when she wanted to leave for Erudite, because he knows the risks of going and being close to death, and she STILL LEFT HIM. Another thing; I didn’t like how in Tris’s POV, she never uses conjunctions. Like she always says stuff like – I am strong, or I will get through this, or I do not know what to do – Like girl, use some conjunctions. You’re annoying me to the depths of Lucifer’s lair. Overall, this book was okay, but if you think you should read it, just go for it. I’m just giving off the opinion based on my POV of this book.
